Food Network Cancels 'Emeril Live'

Food Network is kicking Emeril Lagasse down a notch.

The celebrity chef's "Emeril Live," which has been on the air for 10 years, will cease production Dec. 11, Food Network publicist Carrie Welch told The Associated Press.

"However, Emeril is under contract with Food Network," Welch said Tuesday. "We love him, we support him and look forward to a long partnership with him."

Welch wouldn't comment on Lagasse's contract.

Asked why the show was canceled, she told the AP: "The only reason would be that it hit a ton of television milestones and, you know, all good things come to an end."

The Food Network will continue producing Lagasse's "The Essence of Emeril," and he will take part in "specials and other development opportunities in the future," Welch said.

The network will also air reruns of "Emeril Live."

"I am deeply appreciative to all the unbelievable staff -- many who have been with the show since the beginning -- and all the loyal viewers, and the many talented guests who have appeared on the show through the years," Lagasse, 48, said in a statement provided by Welch.

"I look forward to continuing my association with the Food Network with 'The Essence of Emeril,' and I have lots of new ideas cooking," he said. (AP)

sounds as if Emeril got burned

Posted By: yowzah | November 27 2007 at 03:24 PM

From what I've heard, Emeril is not very nice...at all. What a surprise. He's lucky to have lasted this long.

"The Essence of Emeril" - I am afraid to know what that is...

Posted By: PreciousB | November 27 2007 at 03:33 PM

That was apparent to any FoodNetwork junkie - They moved Emeril from primetime to 7pm and put the much better Good Eats with Alton Brown (repeats at that) in it's place. And the ratings for Good Eats are always excellent.

Emeril just ran out of steam and BAM.

I hate him and his show...good riddance!!

Posted By: Goody2shoe | November 27 2007 at 03:41 PM

Poor, poor Doc Gibbs...will he ever recover?

Posted By: Fletch13 | November 27 2007 at 03:42 PM

Sounds to me like poor Emeril's been BAMboozled...

Posted By: news2me | November 27 2007 at 03:43 PM

BAM!
.
The sound of millions of viewers changing the channel simultaneously...

Posted By: Da_Truff | November 27 2007 at 03:52 PM

vive jacques pepin, bitches!!!

Posted By: secada | November 27 2007 at 03:56 PM

Are there a kajillion cooking shoes on tv now or what? I hate watching them when I'm hungry. So depressing when they start passing the finished product around to the production staff..

Posted By: vickthechick3 | November 27 2007 at 03:56 PM

Translation: Emeril has enough money

Posted By: FredNGingersMom | November 27 2007 at 04:00 PM

Right on, secada!!

Posted By: meowmeow | November 27 2007 at 04:13 PM

This is a example of a network shooting itself in the foot. The last time I check, Emeril's cooking show is the highest rated cooking show on the network. Emeril probably did something to a executive and this is payback. My advice, go to another network.

Hopefully, they'll replace him with "Cookin' and Eatin' with Mark Mangino!"

Posted By: FrankCostanza | November 27 2007 at 04:46 PM

Who cares? He's not even from N'Awlins'!

Posted By: nolacat | November 27 2007 at 04:54 PM

Good riddance. I'm liking Nigella these days.

Posted By: MrG | November 27 2007 at 04:54 PM

Send him to Iraq. Every time he hears "Bam!" he'll start cooking a soldier a nice meal.

Posted By: Redbull | November 27 2007 at 04:54 PM

Now, THERE'S some man-hands.

Posted By: saywut | November 27 2007 at 05:47 PM

It's a pork fat thing.

Posted By: cornwinder | November 27 2007 at 05:54 PM

Thank you nolacat. Emeril is what is called a carpetbagger. Paul Prudhomme and John Folse are better chefs and teachers. Besides, Emeril can live off his earnings from his HSN cooking line.

Emeril has been coasting for a couple of years now; he's just not 'fresh' anymore.

It is time for him to go.

Thanks Bam Man ;-)

I heard they found pubic hairs in the lasagne...

Posted By: straydog | November 28 2007 at 04:32 AM

The food started showing up with black hair dye No. 42.

Posted By: hipsterdoofus | November 28 2007 at 05:56 AM

Always thought he had a bit of a gangsta look to him...or Dracula, circa 1930-something..

Posted By: pinkblonde | November 28 2007 at 06:36 AM

'In the name of the father, son and the holy ghost.Amen. Please greet your neighbor'

Posted By: ihateclowns | November 28 2007 at 07:05 AM

Now if they'd only get Bobby Flay off the channel too, I'd be happy.

Posted By: fenriq | November 28 2007 at 10:22 AM

Emeril is the epitomy of coastal MA! He's been skating a long time on his personality more than his cooking...there's a good reason they didn't put him on Iron Chef America, he wouldn't have been able to keep up! Wolfgang Puck should be given Emeril's spot: he's an amazing chef and makes even the most difficult recipes seem effortless! The one Iron Chef America battle he fought (and won!), he didn't even break a sweat!

Food Network is reworking their TV hosts' contracts to get a % of their off-studio projects - books, etc. My feeling is Emeril told them to "stuff" their goose...
