Isolated moderate-to-heavy thunderstorms are strafing the Anderson area and points just northeast, where a Dersch Road home was reportedly hit by lightning at 7:55 a.m.
These showers are moving south-to-north through the greater Redding area. They could continue through the morning, the National Weather Service has said.

That's scary! I was dropping off my kids at school and in a distance I saw that lightening bolt. It was incredible. Sure hope no one was injured or there wasn't a lot of damage to their home.

Hope nobody was on the throne at the time...or phone.

They finally saw the light?
Posted by Wendy59 on October 29, 2007 at 11:25 a.m.
"strafing" huh?
I hope the house is ok, that would be really scary.

THIS IS MY HOUSE!!
I just learned of this report and see all your comments. Very clever, some of you. I'm just wondering how many people saw this happen? No one injured, but our doggie is missing.
For Sale: You too can own this house! It's good luck.
We were feeding the dogs in the garage and I thought the garage door fell. After realizing it wasn't a plane crashing in my front yard and it was lightning, we heard the zapping noises and the dogs scrambled.
Our haven humane rescue dog ran for the hills because it's been 5 hours and we've not seen hide nor hair of him. Hope someone finds him and is honest about returning him. He's only one yr and he's very nice! We'll be posting flyers at Kent's Meats and Bob's Market if he's not home this afternoon.

Make sure everything in the home is working correctly, if any this is damaged the insurance company needs to step up and pay. If you need help simply post and I will get in touch with you.

I saw it as I was coming down Dersch toward Prairie school-- didn't actually see the house-- just the lightning-- and all the kids on the playground running for cover.

Thank You, TheAdvocate.
We've unplugged anything of value that may turn back on when the power goes on. Thankfully, it was early enough maybe the only things that were on would be the fridge and a computer plugged directly into the wall socket.
All should be good right after pg&e replaces the transformer and the wires from the pole.

Holy cow, embe8ch! I do hope your pooch comes home. Poor guy must have been really shocked.
Why don't you post a description and the name of your missing dog here, too? It's amazing how far a scared dog will travel. Who knows... maybe one of us will see him.
I hope nothing in the house was badly damaged. Pretty scary ordeal! Good luck selling that house. I know a good realtor. His name is Ken Murray. Don't worry; he won't even mention the strike. He'll just say the house is so cheap because you folks need to sell it lightening fast.

I had lightning strike the lightpost outside my house once. It must have been grounded good, because the only thing I lost was my digital thermostat (everything else is on surge protectors, so I'm assuming that had something to do with it.)
I thought it was my air conditioner that was wiped out at first, I was a little worried!
Once spectacular bang, huh? I wish you good luck with finding your dog!

Missing due to thunder, scares easily by loud noise, but friendly:
Name: TAZ
Age: 1
Colors: Black short hair w/ brown paws/shins, white blaze on chest and tip of tail.
Ears: floppy and goofy shaped.
He looks like a midget sheppard.
Red Collar w/ blue "star" shaped license.
Email for photos (after the power goes on):

We'll be looking for Taz! I'm going to post this over on the message boards where EinstensMom and a few my fellow dog-brained friends will see it. We'll get the word out even past the boards. ;)
Make sure the shelters know that he is missing. And for heavens sakes, you’d better call every day lest they adopt him out and we end up having a “FREE TAZ!” uprising that would rival that of Mo’s.
I can't imagine if one of my Danes went missing, so I feel your pain. Dogs are so special. Great description, by the way.

Ren, I thank all of you for your concern and keeping your eyes peeled. Taz will appreciate it as well. Keep the humor and prayers coming!

I'll send out description to the flyball community, some rescue communities, and a couple more dog clubs when I get home tonight. Please post when you get him back so we stop searching.

Thank you Barbara. I will post when he's found.
Since my phone is out until tonight at least, our cell # 562.761.9129. Taz has a chip and HH knows he's awol as well.

Good luck, and I hope I'll hear the good news before I have a chance to e-mail anything out tonight. :-)
I had a Golden Retriever who bolted (no pun intended) a few years ago after a loud thunderclap. I guess he ran and ran, trying to get away from the noise. He was gone for four days, and I was just beside myself. I finally got a call from someone about two miles away who found him on their porch.
I know how you feel.
Posted by kdunn on October 29, 2007 at 4:48 p.m.
I hope Taz comes home soon! I too will post to several dog groups and folks in the Anderson area.
I had a choc. lab that freaked in Thunderstorms and would scale fences. Fortunately, if I was not home, she would run to the neighbors houses and sit on porches scratching to get in somewhere! Everyone in the neighborhood new her.
Prayers for you all... if you can keep me posted at k9kelts at kieranna dot com
God bless,
Kathy

I live in that general area. I heard it this morning, but was busy feeding my own dogs, didn't see it. Wow I'm glad to hear everyone's okay, and will keep an eye out for your dog "Taz."
Hope minimal damage to your home and all the pluggins.. Everyone knows it's a pain to resent clocks :(
That god for surge protectors...
Good Luck!!!

Glad you're all O.K. Hope you find Taz soon.

This is how this site should work. Someone is in need and we all get together and help them out. That's how folks treated each other years ago. I hope you find your dog and I would like to thank all those who are concerned.
Posted by bluebell on October 30, 2007 at 8:22 a.m.
Did you find Taz yet? I have been thinking about him all night. Please let us know if you have.
Posted by embe8ch on October 30, 2007 at 9:42 a.m.
Taz came home about 7:30 in the evening. He seemed distraught and traumatized and was probably waiting for the cover of darkness (and hunger) before he decided to come out of hiding.
I thank God for sending him home safe and sound. I have a feeling this won't be the last time though. We have alot of thunder storms and he hates hunting season at the local hunt club.
All is good with the house. Pg&e had the power on before 6pm. Thanks to them as well. No damage to any appliances as the bolt didn't trip the breaker just blew the transformer and wiring.
Thank you to all who were on the lookout and sent letters of concern. Even to those who read this article and didn't response. Your thoughts were with us.
Safe and Happy Holidays to All.

I'm very greatful that Taz came home safely and thank you for letting everyone know that he is safe.

Yeah, great news that made my day! I've been thinking about Taz and had to check back in! That is wonderful news that he's home and safe and sound!
Posted by Ren on October 30, 2007 at 4:20 p.m.
YAY! I'm so glad Taz came home! I was thinking about him, too. :D
All I can say is that if you know a storm is coming, perhaps you can kennel your dogs so they don't get away. You said, "I have a feeling this won't be the last time". Well, make it the last time. You'd be doing a favor for Taz - who won't be lost, cowering, cold, and hungry somewhere - and for yourself, as you won't be worrying about Taz.
I'm also glad to hear that all of the stuff in your house is okay. I usually give my man such a hard time when he wants me to turn everything off during a storm. "It won't happen to me!" Yeah right.
Really - please consider that kennel. I know it may not have helped for the strike, which was out of the blue, but if you know a storm is coming it may help.
Posted by embe8ch on October 31, 2007 at 8:22 a.m.
Oh, believe me, if I know there's T-Storms due in the future, I'll be taking precautions to lock the doggies up.
Only God Himself could predict that bolt. In my 44 yrs on earth, that's the closest I've ever been to an actual strike.
Yikes!
