Calvin’s ex Kelly Klein to become a mother at 50

A joint post from CBB contributors Shannon and Kaisa:

Kelly Klein, 50, the ex-wife of fashion designer Calvin Klein, 64, is to become a mother for the first time. She is expecting a baby boy via surrogate mother in California, due on November 1. Kelly’s spokesman Paul Wilmot confirms,

She is expecting a baby and it is with a surrogate.

The newborn will carry Kelly’s maiden name Rector. Asource says the first name is possibly Owen or Lewis — however, Wilmot deniesthis. The identity of the father will remain a secret for the time being; it was only revealed that no family member or relative was involved. After the baby is born,

Kelly will be living with the baby in New York and Palm Beach.

Kelly’s marriage to Calvin lasted for 20 years — the last ten were spent separately and the divorce was finalized in April of last year. According to an insider,

Even though Calvin has a daughter, Marci, 40, from his first marriage, none of us ever really heard any talk of Calvin and Kelly starting their own family.

However, Kelly had wanted children for many years and said after her 40th birthday that she ‘felt her biological clock ticking.’ Another friend adds,

She has wanted a baby for a very long time. She loves children. She is very excited about this.

50 years and expecting a child? according to me that’s a little bit too old
just think of the fact when her kid will become 20
how old will she be? 70, 71???
    poor kid
    be a little bit realistic!

  2. Beverley Says:

Well, congratulations to her. I wouldn’t want to be as old as her starting out, but to each her own. I wouldn’t want to be 68 when my kid graduates from high school and probably not see my own grandkids, but that’s up to her. And 58 playing in the yard with a 7 or 8 year old is going to be very hard for her. I wonder if she truly thought this out for the long term good of the child, not just the immediate gratification of her having a baby. But congratulations to her anyway.

  3. dee Says:

Congrats at 50 she deserves it. I personally thought the whole surrogate mother thing was a bit weird, but if someone else is blessed to have that baby for you, than more power to em’. I’m pregnant now with my first child at 24 so 50 seems a long time to wait. But, whenever it happens it is always a blessing! :)

  4. Tracy Says:

    Ok, I’m confused…

She is using a surrogate to carry the child, but who is the father? Is it Calvin?

Sarah’s note: I think it says in the post that it’s not a relative or family member.

  5. Principesa Says:

Good for her, though I don’t envy her starting her family at age 50.

CA has very friendly laws regarding surrogacy so no surprise there.

  6. Grayson's Girl Says:

Congrats to her! Babies are a blessing whenever and however they arrive. I wouldn’t necessarily wait that long but more power to her. I’m glad she’s getting the baby she’s been longing for.

  7. Robin Gorman Newman Says:

I became a mom at 42 and thought that was challenging. But, I know of woman who at age 56 now has three year old twins and feels blessed. So, for some, it’s never too late, and parenthood is all the sweeter. The key is take good care of yourself, so you have the energy to keep up. Fortunately, for Kelly’s sake, she also has the money to hire good help, which doesn’t hurt.
